Marianna Martines (1744-1812) was an Austrian singer, keyboardist, and prolific composer of vocal, keyboard, and orchestral works. Her father was the maestro di camera at the Viennese papal embassy, thereby affording her easy access to the most prominent professional musicians of her time. She hosted and performed in salons regularly in her home. These events were often frequented by Franz Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who may have collaborated with Martínes in four-hand keyboard works. Martínes was an honorary member of the Bologna Accademia Filarmonica, and Charles Burney praised her “touching expression.” Approximately 70 of her rumored 200 musical works are extant.
