Marianna von Auenbrugger (d.1786) was an Austrian keyboard player and composer. She studied with Antonio Salieri, and her father, the well-known physician Leopold von Auenbrugger, wrote the German libretto for Salieri’s comic opera Der Rauchfangkehrer. Marianna and her sister Katharina were both highly-respected keyboardists. Haydn wrote in 1780 that “the approval of the Demoiselles von Auenbrugger … is most important to me, for their way of playing and genuine insight into music equal those of the greatest masters. Both deserve to be known throughout Europe through the public newspapers.” Marianna’s only known work, a keyboard sonata, was published in Vienna in 1781.
