Eliza Mazzucato Young (1846-1937) was an Italian-American composer, musician, and teacher. She studied with her father, Alberto Mazzucato, who was the director of the conservatory at the Teatro all Scala in Milan. After relocating to London, she taught at the National Training School of Music and the Royal College of Music until 1883. She and her husband, the American baritone Bicknell Young, moved to Salt Lake City in 1885 to open a music school. They performed in New York and eventually moved to Chicago to perform and teach at the Chicago Conservatory.

Young’s 1888 Mr. Sampson of Omaha was one of the first operas by a woman to be performed in the United States. Songs from the opera were quite popular and were sold individually as sheet music for years after its debut. Her other compositions include the one-act opera The Maiden and the Reaper, songs, and pedagogical pieces.
